Cabinet guy in Albuquerque told me my corner joints were too tight, and he was right
He looked at my first run of upper cabinets last spring and said to leave a 1/16 inch gap on the corner joints so the wood has room to move with the dry air here. I started doing it on the next set and haven't had a single hairline crack since, anybody else learn this the hard way?
Leaving a 1/16 inch gap just gives dust and moisture a place to sneak in, and tight joints with good glue hold fine if the wood is dried right. Blaming the gap for no cracks is backwards, you fixed it by letting the wood sit longer before cutting.
