Finally saw my bathroom floor dry after 6 weeks of tiling work
It took me forever to tile my master bath because I kept messing up the layout. I must have pulled up like 20 tiles in the first week alone after realizing the pattern was off. Once I got the spacing right with those cheap plastic spacers from Home Depot, it actually started to look decent. The grout dried last night and I just stood there staring at it for a solid five minutes lol. Has anyone else had that moment where you finally stop second guessing every cut?

Hearing "stood there staring at it for a solid five minutes" makes me think you're way too deep in it. I've done that too. But honestly that's the trap. You stare at your own work long enough you start thinking it's perfect. Wait a week. You'll spot a crooked grout line or a tile that's slightly higher than the next. I pulled up 20 tiles too. But that just means I wasted a whole week of my life on a floor that's still not straight. Sometimes you gotta walk away and not look back.

That "stare at it for five minutes" thing happens in so many parts of life, not just tiling. You ever spend forever trying to write a text and then send it and realize you made a typo right away?

Is it just me or is that the most frustrating thing in the world, @grace89? You stare at the text, read it three times, hit send and bam - there's the typo staring back at you. Figure the universe just enjoys messing with us right when we think we've got it perfect.

Oh man, I used to be totally the opposite on this. I thought if you stared at something long enough you could will the imperfections away or something. But reading what you all said about sending a text and realizing the typo right after, it finally clicked for me. That's literally the same thing with tile work or any project. You get so close to it your brain stops seeing what's actually there and just fills in what you wanted to see. I used to think walking away was admitting defeat but now I get it. It's just resetting your eyes so you can actually see the real picture. Might have saved me a few headaches on my last bathroom job if I'd figured this out sooner.
