I finally caught a contractor using the wrong drywall screws at my place

I was over at a rental I own near Tramway and Central last Tuesday, watching a crew finish a bathroom reno. The guy was putting up cement board for the shower and I saw him grab a box of regular coarse drywall screws off his truck. I asked him about it and he said it was fine, but those will corrode behind tile in about a year. I made him stop and drive to HD for coated cement board screws, cost me maybe $12 extra but saved a full tear out. Has anyone else caught subs cutting corners like that, and how do you check their work without breathing down their neck the whole time?
