Learned the hard way about subfloor leveling compound

I spent 3 days trying to shim out a warped bedroom floor in my Corrales rental reno before a contractor buddy told me to just pour self-leveling compound. That stuff saved me a full day and the floor came out dead flat, no squeaks at all. Has anyone else switched from shims to leveling compound on older ABQ homes?

idk man, I've seen that stuff crack and pull away from the framing in these older ABQ houses when they shift in the summer heat. shims are a pain but at least you know it's solid underneath, not just a thick slab of goo sitting on a squeaky subfloor.
