My ABQ kitchen reno hit $18,400 and I stopped counting at the cabinets
Started the kitchen gut on a 1950s place near Nob Hill thinking 12 grand would cover it, but the second I opened the wall behind the stove I found knob and tube wiring and a busted vent stack in the same afternoon. My spreadsheet was at $18,400 by the time the cabinet quote came in and I just stopped adding it up, which is dumb since I still owe the electrician. Did any of you set a hard number before demo and stick to it, or does every old ABQ house just eat the budget alive?
Knob and tube isn't automatically a dealbreaker, you can sometimes just pigtail the new stuff onto it if the inspector's cool with it, but the vent stack would've got you either way lol. Old ABQ houses love eating budgets, it's not just you.
