My contractor's tape measure trick saved me three hours on Friday

Last week I was laying out a tile pattern for our guest bath and kept making math mistakes. My contractor Joe came by at noon and showed me he snaps a chalk line at 16 inches on the subfloor instead of measuring each row. That simple method cut my layout time from four hours down to under one. Has anyone else got trade shortcuts that seem obvious after someone shows you once?

That chalk line trick is a game changer, honestly. Once you see it done once it feels so dumb you didnt think of it yourself. I do the same thing but with a laser level now for wall tile, and I mark every 8 inches on the studs with a pencil first so I dont even need to snap lines. It saves me from counting tiles over and over, which is where I always mess up and end up with a skinny cut in a corner.
