Overheard someone at the ABQ lumberyard say we should go to lime plaster instead of drywall

This guy at Builders Source was going on about how lime plaster breathes better and lasts longer than drywall in our dry climate. I get the idea but he was acting like drywall is junk and I've been hanging and finishing it for 15 years without issues. My own house off Montgomery has had the same drywall since 2008 and zero cracks or mold. Has anyone actually switched to lime plaster for a whole house here and not regretted the extra labor?

And that's the thing, right? Everyone's got this obsession with the newest big thing, whether it's lime plaster or some fancy new phone. Drywall works fine, it's been working fine, and suddenly it's not good enough because some guy read a blog post. I've seen it with appliances too, people chasing some perfect material and ending up with a nightmare of maintenance and cost. Your house proves drywall holds up great here if you do it right. The whole lime plaster push feels more like a trend than a real solution for our climate.

Stick with drywall. Lime plaster is a pain here and not worth the hassle.
