Picked cedar fencing over pressure treated for my backyard project in Santa Fe

I was about to go with pressure treated for a 200 foot fence line because it's cheaper. Then a builder buddy showed me how cedar naturally resists rot without the chemical leaching. Has anyone else switched materials mid-project and been glad they did?

Yeah, I actually read somewhere that cedar has natural oils that keep bugs away, which is wild for something that doesn't need chemical treatment. My neighbor did the same switch halfway through his fence build and said the cedar smells way better while you're working with it too. Sounds like your builder buddy steered you right, especially for a dry climate like Santa Fe where rot isn't as big a worry.

That cedar smell really does make the whole project more enjoyable.

I read cedar's natural oils actually get stronger as it ages, which is pretty cool.
