Switched to spray foam after watching my buddy's electric bill in Rio Rancho

Was helping a friend insulate his bonus room off Unser Blvd last month and he showed me his July electric bill - $340 with fiberglass batts. He redid the attic with closed cell spray foam from Foam Masters out here, and his next bill dropped to $210. That's almost $130 a month difference. I always thought spray foam was just hype but seeing real numbers changed my mind. Anyone else make the switch and notice a big difference?

Hold up let me just say my buddy in Los Lunas went all in with spray foam and his savings were like maybe 40 bucks a month not 130. That 340 to 210 drop sounds real specific like maybe he also fixed his old AC unit or sealed up some big leaks along with the foam. I'm not saying spray foam is bad but a 130 dollar swing in New Mexico in July could be a bunch of things not just the insulation.

Wait is this really that big of a deal though? Like we're talking about 130 bucks in July in New Mexico which is basically just a couple tanks of gas or a dinner out with the family. Your buddy's 40 dollar savings is way different from that 130 number and my guess is the guy who saw 130 probably had other stuff going on. Maybe his old AC was barely running and the spray foam just let it keep up better but the real fix was the AC itself. Or maybe his house had a bunch of drafts that he never bothered to seal before and the foam fixed those without him admitting it. I just think folks get too caught up in the numbers without looking at the bigger picture of how much their habits or equipment changed at the same time.
