That trick with painter's tape for labeling wires saved my kitchen reno
Heard an electrician on a podcast mention putting a strip of blue painter's tape on each wire and writing the circuit number with a sharpie before you disconnect anything. Tried it last weekend when swapping out all my old outlets in a 1950s house on Copper Ave and it made reconnecting a hundred times easier. No more guessing which switch goes to which light, seriously saved me about 2 hours of troubleshooting. Anyone else got a simple labeling hack that made a big difference?

That trick with painter's tape saved my rear on a 1950s house too, those old wires are all the same color.

My 1962 split level was the exact same nightmare. I spent a whole Saturday labeling every single wire with numbered tape before I even touched a switch. That little trick probably saved me from calling an electrician to untangle my mess. The worst part is how the old insulation crumbles if you even look at it wrong. Glad I wasn't the only one who figured out the tape system the hard way.

ok wait, the insulation crumbles if you just look at it? i've dealt with some old wiring but that sounds like a whole other level of nightmare. i feel like i would've ended up covered in that stuff and probably breathing it in without even realizing.
