The tile guy at the Expo said something about backer board that has me second guessing my bathroom floor
I was at the home show at the convention center on Saturday and a tile guy doing a demo said fiber cement backer board needs a 1/8 inch gap between sheets. He pointed out that if you butt them tight they buckle when the thinset cures and your tiles pop loose in a year or two. I have done 3 bathroom floors in my house over the years and I never once left a gap, just screwed them down tight and went to town. Now I am wondering if the loose tile in my hall bath is from that and maybe not from my kid dropping stuff. Does anyone here gap their backer board or am I the only one who skipped it?
