I thought a hot shower was the best way to end a shift til my sister made me try a 10 minute walk instead
I always jumped straight in the shower after work but my sister kept nagging me to walk around the block first and after 2 weeks I have to admit the walk helps me way more. By the time I get home I'm not still replaying the whole day in my head, the shower just felt good for 5 minutes and then I was right back in it. Anyone got a wind down thing that sounds dumb but actually works?
I read somewhere that the brain needs about 20 minutes of low key movement to actually switch gears after a stressful day. Something about how walking gives your mind a job to do (watch for cars, dodge dogs) but not a hard one, so it can't keep looping on the same junk. There was a small study where people who walked after work had lower stress scores than the ones who just sat or showered right away. So your sister was onto something real, not just being annoying.
