I finally switched to a small French press at 3pm and it fixed my whole afternoon
For a long time I was making a big pot of drip around 6am and then reheating whatever was left after lunch, which tasted like hot cardboard by 3pm. About 2 months ago I started keeping a little 12oz French press at my desk and just making one fresh cup after my last meeting of the day. The trick was grinding the beans coarser than I used to and letting it sit for exactly 4 minutes before I press it, which sounds fussy but it takes less time than waiting on the office Keurig line. My afternoons feel less like a slog now, and I actually finish my paperwork instead of staring at the screen. Has anyone else found a small change like this that made the 3pm cup worth looking forward to again?
My grandpa used to do something like this but with tea. He kept a little kettle in his workshop and at 3 sharp he would stop everything, even if he was mid project, to make one cup of Earl Grey. Never rushed it either, let it steep way longer than the box said. He said the pause itself was the real point, not the drink, and honestly he got more done after that cup than the whole rest of the day.
