I switched from 4pm drip to 2pm pour over and the drop off at 9pm is night and day
For about a year I was brewing a big pot of drip at 4pm and fighting to stay awake past 9, but last week I started doing a single pour over at 2pm with a finer grind and 12 grams of beans. The pour over gives me a steady lift that fades out by dinner instead of that drip crash at 8pm where I want to lie on the floor. Has anyone else noticed a cleaner wind down with a smaller early afternoon cup, or am I just imagining it?
I spent years thinking a bigger pot was the answer, which is a lot like thinking a second alarm clock will fix your sleep. The smaller cup earlier in the day makes sense to me, since you are not stacking caffeine on top of a tired body right when it needs to slow down. If the pour over gives you a cleaner fade, that is not in your head.
