My afternoon pour over went from 20 minutes to 8 after a kitchen scale mishap

I used to just eyeball my coffee grounds after 2pm, which meant every cup was a gamble between weak and bitter. Last Tuesday, my cheap scale died mid-pour, so I had to guess the 22 grams I normally use. Ended up with a cup that was actually perfect, and it hit me that I'd been overcomplicating the ratio all along. Now I just use a heaping tablespoon per 12 ounces and skip the scale entirely. Anyone else simplify their afternoon brew after a happy accident like this?

Heard James Hoffmann say the same thing. Scales are great but not gospel.
