Heard my niece call an air fryer 'just a mini convection oven' and it got me thinking

I was at a family dinner last week and my niece, she's 22, said air fryers are basically just small convection ovens with a fancy name. She was talking about how her mom used to make crispy fries in a regular oven with a wire rack. It made me remember my grandma's old toaster oven that took forever. But I dunno, I still feel like the air fryer gets things crispier faster because the fan is way stronger and the basket lets air hit everything. Has anyone else gone back to a regular oven after using an air fryer for a while and noticed a big difference?

She's not wrong, but that strong fan makes all the difference for weeknight dinners. My old convection oven never got stuff that crispy that fast.
