I was totally wrong about air frying tofu
I always thought you needed to press tofu for like an hour to get it crispy. Tried a tip from a cooking blog to just cube extra firm tofu, toss it in a tablespoon of cornstarch and soy sauce, and air fry at 400 for 12 minutes, shaking halfway. It came out perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside, no pressing at all. My whole process went from over an hour to maybe 20 minutes. What other 'necessary' prep steps have you guys found you can actually skip in the air fryer?

Wait, you guys preheat? @taylorellis is right, I just toss stuff in cold and it always works fine.

My old oven took 20 minutes just to hit 350. I stopped preheating for things like frozen pizza or cookies years ago. You just put them in and start the timer when the oven beeps that it's ready. It saves a ton of energy and I've never had a bake fail. The only time I bother is for very delicate pastries. For 90% of home cooking, preheating is a pointless waste of time.

Totally! You can skip preheating for most things, just add a couple extra minutes.
