Realized my mom's old deep fryer was 3 times the oil of the air fryer

Was cleaning out my mom's kitchen cabinets last weekend and found her old deep fryer from the 80s. Out of curiosity I measured how much oil that thing took compared to my Cosori basket... 2.5 quarts for her fryer versus a tablespoon for mine. I looked it up online and a typical batch of fries in a deep fryer soaks up about 500 calories of oil. Wild to think we used to eat like that every Friday night. Anybody else ever look back at old cooking habits and cringe a little?

That "500 calories soaked up" might actually be a good thing if you're eating real food and not seed oils. People were healthier back then eating lard fried food than they are now with all these processed air fryer meals.

Did my grandma know about seed oils when she was frying everything in bacon grease?

My grandma deep fried everything in Crisco and lived to 93.
