Used to think air fryers were just a fad, til I made wings in mine

Last Tuesday I threw some frozen chicken wings in with no oil at 400 for 25 minutes, and they came out crispier than my deep fryer ever did. The skin shattered like glass, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a recipe that completely changed their mind about this thing?

The whole air fryer thing reminds me of how people used to say microwaves were just for reheating coffee. Now everyone's got one. Sometimes we just need the right recipe to see what something's actually good for.

Glad they turned out good but "completely changed your mind" sounds a little dramatic. A machine that blows hot air around can make crispy food, sure, but it's still just a countertop convection oven at the end of the day. Deep frying gives you that real greasy crunch with the oil soaked in, which some people actually want. Air fryers do a decent job for frozen stuff but they're not magic, you know? I've had wings come out dry if I forget to shake the basket halfway through, so it's not foolproof. Call me when one of these things can make a decent battered fish.

My wife still brings up the time I tried to make a grilled cheese in our first air fryer and ended up with a smoke-filled kitchen and a fire alarm that wouldn't quit. But those wings you're talking about? I've been doing the same thing and now I'm afraid to tell my deep fryer we need to see other people.
