Vent: My air fryer almost caught fire making frozen fries from the Safeway in Tacoma
Last week, I tried to cook a full bag of those crinkle cut fries in my basket model. I didn't shake the basket enough, and a big clump built up right under the heating coil. It started smoking bad after about 8 minutes, and I had to pull the plug fast. Has anyone else had a close call with frozen stuff piling up like that?

Those frozen fries have a ton of starch on them, which turns to powder in the bag. That powder dumps out and burns instantly. I always pour fries from the bag into a bowl first, then load the basket. It keeps the loose starch out.

Mine did the same thing with tater tots. The manual says not to overload it, but a full bag seemed fine. Now I only cook a single layer at a time. I also shake the basket every three minutes, no matter what. It takes longer but nothing burns.
