Warning: my air fryer basket went flying across the kitchen on a batch of wings
Last Wednesday I was doing a quick batch of wings at 400 degrees and pulled the basket out to shake them. The little plastic tab that locks the basket to the handle snapped off somewhere along the way, so when I tilted it, the whole basket dropped straight onto the counter and dumped hot oil everywhere. I only had about 8 wings in there, but it took me 40 minutes to scrub the grease off the tile and the wall behind it. Took the basket apart and saw a hairline crack in the plastic that I never noticed before. Has anyone rigged a fix for a broken handle tab or is it just time to buy a new basket?
A buddy of mine had the same tab crack on his and he tried wrapping it with a zip tie and some tape, which held for about two weeks before it let go mid shake and made an even bigger mess. That kind of fix is only ever a temp patch because once that plastic is cracked it keeps spreading, and hot oil plus a failing latch is a bad combo. Your mileage may vary, but I'd just grab a new basket, they're usually not too pricey and way cheaper than a burn.
