A pilot said my torque wrench was overkill, I still cant shake it off
I was doing a wheel change on a 737 last Friday over at MRO hangar in Orlando and this captain walks by, watches me torque the axle nut, and goes, "kid, you know that thing has a tolerance of like a mile, right?" I mean, he was laughing and all, but it bugged me. I've been doing this for 8 years and I still follow the manual to the letter, even if the old timers think it's overkill. But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if he has a point about some of these checks being overly tight in real world conditions. Has anyone else had a pilot or inspector question your procedure and make you second guess yourself, or do you just ignore them and stick to the book?
