Cracked cylinder barrel on a 40 year old Lycoming at KSDL yesterday
Was doing a compression check on a C172 and cylinder #3 showed oil everywhere around the base, pulled the cowl and found a hairline crack running about 2 inches up the barrel. Owner wants to fly it to Oshkosh next week and thinks a field repair will hold, I told him that's a jug pull and overhaul decision. Has anyone else had an owner push back on a cracked barrel when they've got a trip deadline, and how did you handle the argument?
