Hit 2,000 brake jobs last Tuesday, changed my mind about torque wrenches
I always thought using a torque wrench on every lug nut was overkill for regional jets. Then we had a nose wheel come loose on a 145 at KLAX back in 2017, not my job but I saw the report. Last Tuesday I hit my 2,000th brake change and decided to actually read the maintenance manual on torque specs for the MLG. Turns out I was running about 15% low on the final pass for years. Never had a failure, but the margin was way thinner than I thought. Anyone else track their personal job numbers and find a spot where they were cutting corners without realizing it?

Hold up, you ran 15% low for YEARS and never caught it in your own paperwork? What made you finally read the manual, was it something specific or just boredom? Cause that 2017 incident should have been the wakeup call, not the 2,000th job. I'm trying to figure out what triggers us to actually check our own numbers before something goes wrong.
