I tried using a torque wrench on my own car's lug nuts and got a reading that made no sense
I was doing a brake job on my 2014 Civic in my driveway last Saturday and figured I'd try my click-type torque wrench on the lug nuts after reading somewhere that shops often over-torque them. Set it to 80 ft-lbs like the manual says, but when I tried to loosen the first nut to check, it clicked way early and I got confused about whether my wrench was off or the nut was already loose. Turns out I was reading the scale on the wrong side of the handle because the numbers are stamped on both sides and I didn't notice. Cost me about 20 minutes of head scratching before I figured it out. Has anyone else had a torque wrench give them a false reading because of how they were holding it or reading the scale?

Wait, the numbers are stamped on BOTH sides of the handle? I've been using torque wrenches for years and never noticed that. That would mess me up too, no wonder you were scratching your head for 20 minutes.
