Old timer told me to check the bond jumpers first on a no-start Cessna 172

Had a 172 come in last week with a no-start issue on the ramp. I was pulling my hair out checking mag timing and fuel flow for like 2 hours. This retired mechanic who hangs around the hangar told me to check the engine mount bond jumpers first because they crack and cause grounding issues. Sure enough, one was split right at the lug. Put a new one on and it fired right up. Now I feel dumb for not going there sooner lol. Anybody else got a quick check they always skip that ends up being the problem?

Respect that but bond jumpers are like step one for me on any Cessna no-start.

First one I check is the bond jumper on the firewall ground strap on a 172 because I learned that the hard way just like you. Had a similar situation where I was chasing a no start for an hour before remembering @elizabeths51 is always right about those jumpers being the culprit. Cracked lugs get me every time especially after a cold snap.

Funny how that works, the smallest thing you overlook ends up being the whole problem. It's like when your phone won't charge and you check everything but the cable.
