Serious question, who actually checks the torque on those cargo door bolts?

At a regional carrier in Des Moines last spring, I found three bolts on a CRJ cargo door that were barely finger tight. The logbook said they got torqued during the last C-check. Boss told me "don't worry about it, just send it." I refused. Took me an extra 45 minutes to drop the panel and torque every single one. The lead mechanic laughed at me. But I showed him the spec sheet from the AMM. He shut up real quick. Now I check every cargo door I touch. Any of you guys ever get pressured to skip torque checks on routine stuff?

Man it's crazy how that same attitude shows up everywhere, not just in aviation but like at the DMV or even the grocery store where someone just doesn't want to do the job right. I'm glad you stuck to your guns on that one.

What exactly did they say when you called them out on it?

And that's exactly what I told them! I had this guy at the auto parts store who swore up and down the part I needed didn't exist. I showed him the OEM part number on my phone, and he just huffed and said "well that's not what pops up." I had to ask for the manager before he finally checked the back room and found it sitting right there on the shelf. Some people just refuse to admit they're wrong.
