Showerthought: a line guy at O'Hare said my pre-flight walkaround was too fast to be thorough.

He was right, so now I force myself to count to five at each inspection point. Anyone else have a trick to slow down when you're in a hurry?

Been there for sure. My old instructor used to make me say the checklist item out loud before I even looked at the part. It felt silly, but adding that extra step really forces your brain to engage and stops you from rushing.

Ever try that trick with something you do every single day, like locking your front door? I started saying "keys, phone, wallet" out loud before I leave because of stuff like this. It sounds so dumb but it works, you can't just go on autopilot. @lunaf67 is right about it being a great trick, it's like your brain needs that extra second to actually hear the plan. I used to constantly forget to turn off the coffee pot until I made myself say "coffee off" before walking out.

That's a great trick, and @the_spencer's idea about saying it out loud works too.
