That 30-year A&P told me to skip the torque seal on cotter pins

An old mechanic named Dave at the hangar in Tulsa told me last year that torque seal on cotter pinned nuts is a waste, just check the pin. I skipped it on a nose gear link and the pin walked out enough on a flight to Dayton that the nut backed off a few threads. Has anyone else had an old timer's shortcut actually fail on them like that?

Yeah the pin walking out is exactly why I dont skip it. That torque seal gives you a solid visual check if things are starting to move around. Some shortcuts work until they dont and this one bit you on a nose gear which is no joke.

Tough break, glad you caught it before it got worse.
