The $80 borescope I called a gimmick is now my favorite tool

Six months ago I bought a cheap borescope to check a fuel line on a Cessna 172 and figured I'd use it once. I was dead wrong. That little camera let me spot a cracked exhaust clamp on a Piper without pulling half the cowling, saved me a whole afternoon. But I still think the fancy ones with wireless screens are overkill when a basic wired model does the job for a fraction of the price. Anyone else start out hating a tool that turned out to save their back or their hours? What made you finally trust it?

That cheap dental mirror has saved me more times than I can count on those hard-to-reach fittings.

Borescopes are just adult versions of peeking under the couch for lost change, except the change is a cracked flange and the couch is a $50,000 engine.
