Thought torque seal was just for show until my rudder cable turnbuckle backed off in Tampa
I used to skip the torque seal on turnbuckles because it felt like extra time for nothing. Then a Cherokee I did an annual on came back 3 weeks later with a loose rudder cable because I never marked it and missed that it had moved. Now I keep a tube of orange lacquer in my box and hit every turnbuckle and bolt I touch. Had a hangar neighbor in Tampa ask why I bother, and I just pointed at that logbook entry. Curious if anyone else has a job that made them change their mind about a shortcut.
Did that Cherokee come back to you or did another shop catch it? I ask because I had a similar scare on a 172, not a turnbuckle but a fuel line B-nut I know I snugged. It seeped just enough to leave a stain on the cowl liner and I spent a week second guessing myself. Now I mark everything I touch with a paint pen, even stuff that seems obvious. The five seconds it takes beats lying awake at night wondering.
