Unpopular opinion: I ditched my digital torque wrench for a beam type and it's the best $40 I've spent
My digital wrench started drifting about 4 ft-lbs off at the low end last spring, so I sent it in for calibration and got quoted $95 plus shipping. Meanwhile I grabbed a $40 beam type from the parts house down the street in Wichita and checked it against the shop's master loader that same afternoon, dead on at 20, 50, and 80 ft-lbs. The beam is slower to read upside down in a wheel well, sure, but it doesn't need batteries or a $95 piece of paper every year. It's a backup for now, but I'm half tempted to make it my main. What are you guys running for the small stuff, beam or clicker?
I've been running a clicker for years and this thread just made me realize I've never once checked it against anything. For all I know I've been torquing lug nuts to "vibes" this whole time. Forty bucks for something dead on at 20, 50, and 80 is tempting though.
