Unpopular opinion: My brother's aviation stories are better than any parenting advice
He uses hydraulic system checks to show my kids why double-checking their homework matters.

Oh man, this is the best kind of life hack. My dad tried to use car engine stuff once to teach me about saving money, but it just made me scared of pistons. Your brother turning a hydraulic check into a homework lesson is way smoother. I'm with @the_ben, I'd probably mix up the flaps and the landing gear trying to explain why we need to fold laundry. Some people just have that teaching gift where it clicks. I need an aviation uncle.

Yeah it's all about finding the right comparison. I mean with my kid, I just started linking stuff he already does to the boring task. Like, you know how you check your game controller batteries before you play? That's basically a pre-flight check for your homework folder. Idk, it sounds silly but it made him stop leaving his math book at school. You gotta use their world to explain your rules.

Absolutely, this is the kind of stuff that actually sticks with kids! @the_ben, your yawn and yaw mix-up is too real, I've been there. My uncle fixes small planes and once used spark plug checks to show my niece why cleaning her room in steps works better. He made her list her tasks like a pre-flight list. Now she actually gets it, instead of just staring at the mess. It's way better than just yelling about it.

Lol using hydraulic systems to teach homework checks is next level. My attempts are more like confusing "yaw" with "yawn" while trying to explain why they shouldn't leave their backpack in the hall. Your brother's method is honestly genius.
