Back in 2012 I dropped $600 on a top-tier panel and it still runs today

That old Honeywell Vista I installed for my own house back in 2012 cost me around $600 with all the sensors. Thing still works perfectly, no glitches or blips. I've replaced batteries maybe three times total. Meanwhile I see these new smart panels crapping out after two years. Anyone else got an old dinosaur that just keeps going?

I know a guy who still runs that old Honeywell panel from like 2009. He's had it through two moves and it just keeps chugging. Last time I was at his place he had to reset it once because a sensor went off during a thunderstorm, but that was years ago. He says the new stuff he sees at work has too many features that break for no reason. I think there's something to be said for a system that just does its job without any drama.

Yeah totally get that. Some of that older stuff just works and you don't have to think about it twice.
