Caught a hidden door sensor failure with a cheap magnetic stud finder

Tbh I was chasing a false alarm at a condo complex in Austin for 3 days, and after swapping every sensor on the zone I tried running a magnetic stud finder along the door frame, which showed the reed switch was fine but the magnet had drifted 2 inches after a shoddy paint job, so anyone else ever find sensor gaps that way instead of pulling the whole trim?

That trick saved me too, found a door gap in San Antonio the same way.

Three weeks ago in El Paso I spotted a crack in the back wall of a gas station bathroom, right behind the toilet. Slid my phone in there and tucked it against the pipe, came back two days later and it was still charging fine. That same trick got me through a rough night in Tucson when I had no place else to go.
