Guy in Tulsa taught me to label every wire before pulling, saved my butt on a 3 panel job
Had a 3 panel job in Tulsa last month and the homeowner kept asking why I was going so slow. I told him I was labeling both ends of every wire with masking tape and a sharpie in case a panel swap goes sideways. He laughed and said his old man did the same thing back in the 80s working on phone lines. Caught a crossed zone wire before I buttoned everything up, would of been a nightmare to chase later. Any of you got a cheap prep trick that pays off more than it should?
Calling it a prep trick that pays off more than it should feels like a stretch. Half the guys I know just ring out the wires at the end and never have a problem, so labeling every single one sounds like overkill for a job that is already tight on time. You got lucky once, that does not mean the rest of us need to turn every panel swap into a tape and sharpie party.
