My old partner said never trust a keypad mounted above a metal door frame, and 8 years later he was still right
Back in 2016 I was training under a guy named Ray in Columbus and he drilled one rule into me: never mount a keypad on a metal frame because the temp swings will cook the board. I thought he was just being picky, so I did it anyway on a job in Dublin, Ohio to save a little wire. Two winters later that keypad was dead and the homeowner was locked out at 11pm, and Ray just laughed when I called him. Anyone else got an old installer rule they blew off and later regretted?
