The sales guy who told me to skip the motion sensor in the garage

A guy from the office, Dave, swore that putting a motion sensor in a finished garage was a waste of time because the homeowner's cat would set it off every night. I ignored him and mounted one in a remodel up in Tacoma last month. Cat hit it 11 times in the first week, and the owner called me at 2 AM twice before I went back and swapped it for a door contact. Has anyone else found that cats are just built-in false alarm testers or do you have a trick to filter them out?

Wired ours up high and angled it down, still got a false alarm from a spider web.
