Voice prompts on basic alarm panels just confuse people, my fix is simpler
Most guys in the trade swear by voice prompts. They think it helps users. I found it does the opposite. Had a job last month where the talking feature freaked out the family. They called me three times in one night. Couldn't understand what the system was saying. I switched it to basic beeps. No more panic calls. The system works better without all that chatter.

Totally, but I'd argue a beep isn't always universal either. My neighbor's hard of hearing and misses the high tones completely. Maybe the real fix is having a few simple options so people can pick what works for their home.

Forget the tech aspect, remember who's actually living with the system. Voice prompts can be a huge problem for folks with even minor hearing loss, or if English isn't their first language. A clear beep is a universal signal, no translation needed. All that talking just adds more noise when people are already stressed. Simple just works better for everyone in the house.

Switched our old noisy washer to a basic model with just lights and a single beep. My dad has trouble hearing higher pitches and the constant voice alerts just stressed him out trying to figure out what it said. Now he sees the solid green light and hears that one low beep, no confusion. Honestly, keeping it that simple made the whole laundry room way less annoying for everyone.
