Warning: a simple window sensor install turned into a four hour hunt for a ghost signal
Had a job in a new build where the client wanted extra sensors on their patio doors. The first one went fine, but the second one kept showing a fault even though the magnet was lined up perfectly. Spent three hours checking wires, swapping parts, even moving the whole sensor to a different spot. Turns out the metal frame had a tiny, hidden steel reinforcement bar exactly where I needed the magnet. The fix? A small plastic spacer and a lot of swearing. Has anyone else run into something like this with newer construction materials?

My stud finder saved me from that.

New builds are the worst for that. Keep a few nylon washers in the truck just for hidden steel in frames.

Wait, you're finding steel inside wood frames on new builds? That's wild, I thought they just used metal plates over the joints. Are they putting full steel beams in there now or what?
