Warning: most home alarm panels I service die from one dumb thing, and it's not the sensors
I was swapping a 12 year old DSC panel in a rental near Dayton last Thursday and the homeowner asked why it kept going offline. Pulled the backup battery and it was swollen like a football, dated 2016, never replaced once. A rep from the distro in Columbus later told me something like 70 percent of service calls in our region trace back to a dead or bulging battery, not a bad sensor or a wiring fault. I used to blame the cheap door contacts on every callback, turns out I was just ignoring the easiest fix in the box. Anyone else see way more battery failures than actual zone trouble on their route?
