Bought a $150 leather journaling kit that's been sitting in a drawer for a year
I saw this fancy kit online with a leather cover, special paper, and all these wax seals and pens. Thought it would make me write more. It's been twelve months and I've written maybe three pages. The paper feels too nice to 'mess up' and the whole setup feels like a production. I should have just grabbed a cheap notebook from the drugstore and started. Anyone else have a hobby tool or kit they bought but never really used?

Stop calling it a waste. You bought a nice thing you liked, that's okay. The problem is treating the tool like it's sacred instead of just a tool. Maybe try writing one really messy, bad page in it on purpose to break the spell?

That's a solid point from @bennett.jana. I once spilled coffee on the first page of a new journal, and it totally freed me up to actually use it. The mess made it mine, and then I could just write junk drafts without worrying.
