Dropped $140 on a dovetail jig and my first three drawers still came out gappy
I finally bought a dovetail jig after months of cutting them by hand with a $25 backsaw, and I honestly can't tell if it was the best or worst money I've spent this year. The first drawer I ran through it came out perfect in about 15 minutes, which felt like cheating after spending a full Saturday on my last one. Then the next three had gaps at the pins wide enough to stick a nickel in, because I didn't clamp the stock down tight enough on the left side. I'm thinking about selling it and going back to hand tools, but I'd hate to give up after one bad afternoon. Has anyone else had a jig fight them harder than the hand tool ever did?
