Had to choose between a fountain pen and a rollerball for my journal
I went with the fountain pen after my roommate swore by it, but I spilled ink on my notebook page 3 times in the first week. Now I'm wondering if I should switch back - has anyone else dealt with ink messes ruining a good entry?

Paper towels are just part of the hobby now, welcome to the club.

Wait, have you tried using bamboo paper towels? They're way more absorbent and last longer than the regular ones. I switched after a friend told me about them, and now I barely use half as many. It really cut down on how often I have to restock at the store. Plus they're better for the planet which is a nice bonus. Just my two cents from what worked for me.
