Heard a guy at the hardware store say 'just buy a new one' about a broken chair

I was grabbing some sandpaper at Ace last Tuesday when this older dude was asking about fixing a wobbly wooden chair leg. The young clerk just shrugged and said 'honestly, it's cheaper to buy a new one.' The guy looked so defeated. It hit me that we're losing the basic skill of repair. I spent my whole evening regluing and clamping that exact type of joint. How do we even start pushing back against this throwaway mindset?

It's not always about the money saved, it's about keeping things out of the landfill. Fixing something yourself gives it more life and a story. That chair will probably outlast a new one from a big box store.
