Hot take: Sketching street scenes beats taking photos for memory

On my last city trip, I packed a small sketchbook instead of relying on my camera. Slowing down to draw the details really locks the place in your mind.

Wait, your sketches look like a toddler's fever dream? That's a pretty specific kind of bad. I'm picturing wobbly buildings with faces. But you're right, even a mess of lines probably does stick in your brain more than another phone pic.

Totally get that, though my sketches look like a toddler's fever dreams. Photos are quick but you just glance at the scene, while drawing makes you actually see the weird details. My terrible drawings still lock the memory in better than any perfect snapshot.
