My 30 year old hand plane just cracked its tote right in half mid-project

Was working on a walnut table edge in my garage last night, putting on the final smoothing passes. Heard this awful SNAP and the whole wooden handle just gave way. It's a Stanley No. 5 I got from my dad, so it's not just a tool, you know? I was so mad I just sat on the floor for like five minutes. Glued it back together with some Titebond III and clamped it, but I'm not sure it'll hold. Anyone have a good source for a replacement tote that won't cost an arm and a leg? Or should I just try to carve a new one myself?

That's the worst sound. Everything's built to break these days, but even the old stuff has its limits.

Remember how we used to fix things instead of tossing them.

Honestly, tossing stuff is way cheaper than paying someone to fix it these days.
