My cheap dovetail jig slipped on walnut and I ended up with a 1/8 inch gap
I was cutting the pins on a jewelry box last Saturday and the base of my old jig shifted about a quarter inch right in the middle of a pass. The bit grabbed and chewed a notch out of the tail board, and I had a gap you could slide a dime into. I ended up gluing a thin walnut shim into the gap, planed it flush with a block plane, and honestly you can barely find the spot now. Next time I'm going to clamp the jig to the benchtop with a pair of quick grips before I turn the router on. Does anyone have a jig that actually stays put, or is clamping the thing down just normal practice?
