My grandma's note on my sketchbook page completely shifted my ink work

Honestly, I've been drawing with fineliners for years and always pressed hard to get solid lines. Last month my grandma saw my latest sketchbook and said my trees looked like they were cut from wire, not grown. She suggested I try lighter strokes and layer them like she does with her quilting stitches. I tested that on two pages in my Hobonichi and the difference is wild. Has anyone else gotten feedback from a non-artist that totally turned their process around?

Did you try slowing down your hand too? That fixed my line weight completely.
