My neighbor's 5 minute gardening tip saved me 3 hours of weeding

I was complaining to Mrs. Garcia about the bindweed taking over my raised beds, and she just said "water deeper, less often." She showed me how her drip lines run for 45 minutes twice a week versus my 10 minutes every day, and now my roots go deep enough that the weeds can't compete. Has anyone else figured out a simple tweak like that that changed their whole approach?

Wait hold up, I gotta disagree hard here. That shallow daily watering kept my seedlings alive in the heat wave while my neighbor's deep soak schedule killed half her starts because the soil dried out too fast on the surface. Plus bindweed is relentless, deeper roots just mean it pops up further away from your beds and you still have to pull it by hand anyway. I tried the deep less often thing and ended up with cracked soil and way more crabgrass filling the gaps between my plants. She's probably just got different soil or better drainage than you because my clay dirt turns into concrete after two days without water. I'll take my 10 minute daily routine over risking my whole bed turning into a dust bowl any summer.
